It's such a shame that FlashMeeting let us down right in the middle of Hungary giving their votes!
What happened before this Europe-wide server crash is still worth watching, so as usual here's the link to (what remains of) the recording of the Live Video Conference for Schoolovision 2017:

Ukraine - My Planet Earth

Greetings from Ukraine!

The vocal studio "Caramel" of Cherkasy gymnasia 31 is very glad to be aboard this adventure ship called Schoolovision 2017 ! We’ve set sail to some of the planet’s best kept secrets: Love, Friendship, Peace, Understanding, Happiness.

Our song is an appeal to protect our planet, to make it the best place to live in. Everything depends on us, there are millions of us! The world that we live in is beautiful and fragile. We should remember that Earth needs to be saved every single day, realize the importance of taking care of our planet. It’s the only home Earth. Planet Earth may be at greater risk than ever before with the emergence of dramatic impact that humankind has had on the natural world within his own lifetime.

We are holding our planet
In the palms of mine and yours,
Let us save the Earth together
Without fights,without wars.
We are holding our planet
In the palms and hearts of gold
Drums of joyfulness are playing
We are millions in the world

We are singing why protecting our planet is vital and why it is our responsibility to save and preserve it. There are millions of us who are holding our planet in the palms!

We hope you will enjoy our song, clip and sand animation.
Warmest regards to all the participants!!!

Belgium - On écrit sur les murs

Hi all of you music lovers,

The 45 final year pupils of Qworzó - Merksplas - Belgium our very proud to present to you the Belgian entry for Schoolovision 2017.

The mother tongue of our pupils is Dutch and since we learn French in school as it is the second largest official language in our country, we wanted to sing a song in French.

We hope you may enjoy listening to our song as much as we loved creating this music video!

Be our guest, turn up the volume and sing and dance with us!

Click the HD button to watch the video in full HD!

We want to thank Marc and Paul for helping us with the music! Special thanks to Rene for his drone camerawork!

We would like it very much if you would leave us a comment!

Good luck to all in this contest!

Kind regards,

Team Belgium

FYR Macedonia

Dear Schoolvisioners,
We are so happy to present you our first Schoolvision song.
Song of love
The song also shows traditional instruments
Enjoy watching it!

Turkey - Colorful

Dear Schoolovisioners!
We are so happy and excited to present you our second Schoolovision song on behalf of Turkey.
Enjoy watching it!

Iceland - Nótt (Tonight)

Here comes our song. Now our song is sung in Icelandic and it is called Tonight. This time, it's the boys who take care of Iceland's contribution with the help of two girls. They are in 6th grade or 11 years old. The sport teacher helped with the recording of the melody and the computer teacher helped with the editing. Student's teachers helped with the video recording. The song focuses on love and the night and was one of the songs that participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in Iceland this year. The video is taken in the school's environment, but we have a beautiful environment that we are so proud to show you like the beach, the lava, the lake, the brook, the clear climate and more. We are proud to be in this project and it is always exciting to see the other videos from you.

Czech Republic - Gold Fish

Hello everybody from the Czech Republic. We are happy to be a part of Schoolovision family. Our song is written by Inka Rybarova again and it is about a goldfish - maybe you can find it in Brno dam...
The video is a work of Marek Novotny, our former pupil and a student of the Secondary School of Art and Design here in Brno. We hope you will enjoy it.

Slovakia - Farby (Colours)

It's been exciting until the last moments!
The lyrics were written by a few pupils and edited by teachers. The piano teacher from Art School in Ivanka pri Dunaji then made the music. Two parents helped our enthusiastic teachers and superb kids to  record the voices, film the video and edit everything. All the participants really enjoyed making the song, so we hope you will feel the energy :-)
Good luck to everyone!

The Colours

My dear little Barbie, Barbie
Likes all the colours, colours
She loves wearing white T-shirts
And walking in white trainers
She also wears yellow blouses
Painted with dark purple roses

What does Barbie dream about?
What desire is in her heart?
To see all the colours of the world
Sing one chorus all along

Let’s put up our hands
Rainbow shining above heads
Ooh aah, ooh aah
Fill up all the seas
Put on your foot down please
Ooh aah, ooh aah
Don’t turn on the TV now
Show everyone who you are

Not only my little Barbie
Likes all the colours and sea
I also love wearing white T-shirts
And walking in white trainers
I also wear yellow blouses
Painted with dark purple roses

What do I dream about?
What desire is in my heart?
To see all the colours of the world
And sing one chorus all along

Let’s put up our hands
Rainbow shining above heads
Ooh aah, ooh aah
Fill up all the seas
Put on your foot down please
Ooh aah, ooh aah
Don’t turn on the TV now
Show everyone who you are

We look around us every night
We send the colours in the sky
We look around us every night
We send the colours in the sky

Don’t turn on the TV now
Show everyone who we are
Blue as the sea
Our hands are up free
Ooh aah ooh aah
Blue as the sea
Our hands are up free!

The Åland Islands - You can do it too!

The pupils in Vikingaåsens skola 3rd and 5th grade proudly present their entry to Schoolovision 2017:

You can do it too!

We live in the Åland Islands, a beautiful archipelago situated midway between Sweden and Finland. Åland is an autonomous, demilitarized (no military allowed) and Swedish-speaking region in Finland. Åland has 29 000 inhabitants, and 11 000 of them live in the only town, Mariehamn. Åland has its very own flag.

The music to our song was composed especially for this occasion by our music teacher Fredrik Erlandsson. The lyrics were written by all the pupils in 5th grade. It partly tells about Åland and the importance of the sea, partly about how you can do everything and if you don’t succeed at once – just keep on trying!

We hope you’ll enjoy watching our video as much as we enjoyed making it!

Verse 1
På Åland har vi hav och strand, och vi vet att det är vårt land, när vi åker från hamn till hamn.
Öar har vi många av, dom är spridda på vårt hav, färjorna åker fram och tillbaks.

Refrain 1
Here´s what we like to do – dance and sing – you can do it too!
Here´s what we like to do – kick a ball – you can do it too!
Here´s what we like to do – ride a bike – you can do it too!
Here´s what we like to do – rabbit jump – just keep on trying!

Verse 2
The Åland Islands are between Finland and Sweden and it seems, like they are floating in the sea.
People are coming from all around, you can hear it in the sound, this is a peaceful place to be.

Refrain 2
Here´s what we like to do – swim and dive – you can do it too!
Here´s what we like to do – jump around – you can do it too!
Here´s what we like to do – play some games – you can do it too!
Here´s what we like to do – catch a fish – just keep on trying!

Refrain 3
Here´s what we like to do- å-e-å- you can do it too!
 - Just keep on trying!

Croatia - Kad si sretan

Hello from Virje, Croatia!
This year we have made a video for a song which all the children around the world know.
We hope you are singing with us!

Norway - Hjerteslag (Heartbeat)

This year's contribution is centered around the theme of refugees. The pupils want the world to know that we sympathize with the refugees coming to Norway, and that we want to do our best to include them in our school and in society as a whole.

Here are the lyrics of the song translated into english:

Heartbeat
You came sailing here in a boat,
away from your home, and you cried.
You were so afraid when you came to our school.
You can come home with me,
become my very best friend.
Even though you come with big wounds.

You have come ...

Your heart beats, and your feet walk and walk.
You have come to a city where you are new.
We just want everything to be alright,
so that nobody wants to leave.

Refrain:
No heartbeats,
can pass without us seing them clearly.
Nothing can strengthen more
than you coming ...

You ran away from your country,
tiny and scared.
You came here to get peace and quietness
We will help your wounds to heal,
we want to build a bridge of friends.
You are going to be here for many years ahead.

You have come ...
Your heart beats, and your feet walk and walk.
You have come to a city where you are new.
We just want everything to be alright,
so that nobody wants to leave.

Refrain:
No heartbeats,
can pass without us seing them clearly.
Nothing can strengthen more
than you coming ...

Rap/ poem in arabic. (Lyrics are in the video)

Refrain: No heartbeats,
can pass without us seing them clearly.
Nothing can strengthen more
than you coming ...

No heartbeats,
can pass without us seing them clearly.
Nothing can strengthen more,
than you coming home,
than you coming home.

Bosnia and Herzegovina - My Land Bosnia

Hi from Žepče, Bosnia and Herzegovina! We're coming from the Kindergarten "Don Ivica Čondrić". Our children, our little students, are 2-6 years old. Shooting for Schoolovision was a real challenge for us because our children are very young, still, it was a lot of fun :)! All the children participated in the video and some of them recorded an audio track.  Our goal was to present our country, so we chose the song "My Land Bosnia". The song speaks about the beauties of our country, hills and the sea, about our native land, clear waters and how proud of it we are. We are soooo happy to be a part of Schoolovision!

Estonia - Strange Machine

This year we decided just to sing and show how beautiful the voices can be. The song is about a strange machine.

The author of the video is Jaagup Tuisk who is a student in the 9th grade.

Many thanks to Jan Graps who allowed to use his father's song.

A Strange Machine

What is this noise?
The floor is shaking
I can't sleep
The ground is rumbling.

What kind of strange machine
would make such a racket?
Yeah yeah yeah

I work all day
Then I go to bed
But I can't sleep
The machine is mad.

What kind of strange machine
would make such a racket?
Yeah yeah yeah

When my grandpa
in the old days
Grabbed a zither
Everyone would dance.

What kind of a strange machine
gave rise to all this dancing?
Don't know, don't know

Now the times are different
The houses are bigger
The crowds are wriggling underneath
The band is playing on the stage

What kind of a strange machine
gave rise to all this dancing?
Don't know, don't know

Spain - Under The Same Sun

CEIP Valsequillo would like to share with you 'Under The Same Sun'. This lively entry involves singing, dancing, laughing, playing, listening, sharing, dreaming and learning in a fun way.
Moreover, we want to take advantage and highlight the importance of the world we live in, care about it and avoid its destruction. Here we show you what has been a treasure for us. The children, teachers, families and many people have collaborated with enthusiasm to make this wonderful entry possible yet again in the precious project: Schoolovision 2017.
This year we have worked with different rhythms and the students have been enriched by having recorded the video in different places on our amazing island, Gran Canaria.
We hope to transmit the light, colour and joy we want to share through this song "Under The Same Sun" by Álvaro Soler. Definitively we are all brothers "Under The Same Sun" in one world.

Wales - Made in Wales

This year's entry from Wales is a simple song about how we feel about our country. We learnt the song not knowing it was going to be our Schoolovision entry. We just love the song! We hope you love it too!!

The song was written by Rob Allen who has written many other excellent songs about Wales. He has very kindly allowed us to use the song and provided the music for us to sing to.

Serbia - Eco Forest

This year we present Serbia in a different light with trumpets and Balkan melodies, performed by our young orchestra. The trumpet is a symbol of our region, the western part of Serbia. It takes a very important place in our tradition, since the beginning of the 20th century.
The theme of our funny song has a universal ecological message. It's about importance of saving our Nature and environment. Our students are involved in many ecological activities.
Also we are very proud to have a successful puppet workshop in our school. Therefore, some of these puppets take part in this spot.
Wish you'll have fun and enjoy our music!

P.S. If you want to have a translation press the subtitle button.

Poland - Hej, hej, dobry dzień (Hey, hey, good day)

Hi eTwinners, Hi Schoolovisioners

Singers are from classes 3B, 4A, 5D and 6B. Scenes are prepared by School Theater "Upside down". Animations made by class 5D. Boomwhackers: class 2C. Around 80 students took part in this event.

Good luck to everyone! :)

We are very proud of our small but beautiful country.
We love our orchards, vineyards and fields. We have rich and wonderful culture.
Especially we love to dance our national dances. Hora is a kind of dance.
It is danced traditionally at every important event. It unites people and makes them feel they are not apart. It is an old dance and reflects our identity.

Finland - Tapio, the king of forest

Hello all!

Wonderful videos here already! Good luck, everyone!

Finland is celebrating our 100 years of independence in 2017,
so this is a special year for us.
We chose a song about the mythological king Tapio of Finnish forest.
The story is very nice about good creatures winning the bad ones.

We hope you will enjoy our song!

Latvia - Cepamdziesma (Baking Song)

Germany - Raccoons (Waschbär'n)

Did you know that (besides all of its previously mentioned superlatives) Kassel is also the European capital of raccoons? Since the first four animals were set out in the woods near our annual school camping paradise at lake Edersee, their population has grown rapidly. Step by step the raccoons enlarged their territory and travelled on. Today we have many, many of those cute but naughty animals living right here in Kassel with us. Only that they sleep when we wake, as it says in our song.

Their time of arrival in Kassel may have coincided with another special event in the history of our city: 30 years ago our Freie Schule Kassel was founded! We are going to celebrate this grand anniversary for a full weekend in June, probably singing along to the tune of our "Waschbär'n" song which was written especially for this event by our wonderfully creative school musicians.

Oh, I think I can hear something outside in the school garden. Let me quickly check ...

Our 6th graders got it ready with the help of their teacher, Cristina.

Malta - Time Expedition

Time Expedition is about today’s kids spending most of their time using technology and various gadgets to while away the time and forgetting what is it like to play freely in the open air and being sociable. Suddenly, Ozzy the Alien, lands into a park but no one looks at him. So he yells out and shouts to them to join him in playing traditional Maltese games. Hope you will enjoy our entry! Sing with us and have fun! Good luck to all!

England - Raggle Taggle Gypsy

This year, we've chosen to sing a traditional British folk song that has been popular throughout Britain, Ireland and North America for 200 years.
We've added some Punjabi Bhangra beats to better represent the cultural diversity of our school community. Our children sit comfortably in many different cultures, and our song reflects this.
Thanks so much to Steffen for pointing out that England's entry, Raggle Taggle Gypsy, has Scottish roots. Thanks too to Michael who has gifted England this song from the Scottish borders, in true Schoolovision generosity of spirit!

There were three old gypsies came to our hall door
They came a-brave and boldly-o
And one sang high and the other sang low
And the other sang a raggle taggle gypsy-o

It was upstairs downstairs the lady went
Put on her suit of armour-o
And there was a cry from around the door
She's away wi' the raggle taggle gypsy-o

It was late that night when the Lord came in
Enquiring for his lady-o
And the servant girl she said to the Lord
"She's away wi' the raggle taggle gypsy-o"

"Then saddle for me my milk white steed
- my big horse is not speedy-o
And I will ride till I seek my bride
She's away wi' the raggle taggle gypsy-o"

Now he rode East and he rode West
He rode North and South also
Until he came to a wide open plain
It was there that he spied his lady-o

"How could you leave your house and your land?
How could you leave your money-o?
How could you leave your only wedded Lord
All for a raggle taggle gypsy-o?"

"What care I for my house and my land?
What care I for my money-o?
I'd rather have a smile from the yellow gypsy's lips
I'm away wi' the raggle taggle gypsy-o!"

Sweden - Better Together

Greetings from Helsingborg and Sweden! This time last year I was very interested when Anneli Hill, and the team of Swedish teachers, told the rest of the staff about Schoolovision and showed us the entry that our PYP5 students had worked so hard on. Being an almost lifelong fan of Eurovision, I don't think our other PYP1 teacher, Magdalena Simons, was too surprised when I "convinced" her that PYP1 should enter in 2017! With her musical talents, my organisational skills and Anneli's expertise in Schoolovision, I knew we could make it happen! We were very lucky that one of the music teachers, in our school, Per Kincaid, had written a song, years ago, called "Wonder Song" and he was willing to allow us change the lyrics for the competition. With the help of our students and many other staff we wrote "Better Together" and are very proud of what our 47 6-7 year old students have achieved! A big thanks to Simon Vickers for filming and editing our video, to Anneli Hill for helping us to write the Swedish chorus, to Sally Drury for helping the children practice the song in music lessons, and helping us to write the song and to Mike Black for helping with everything!! This was a zero budget production, The International School of Helsingborg is a public school in the south west of Sweden, with very passionate students, staff and parents! We are so excited about the 12th of May and look forward to hearing all of the entries and deciding how to cast our votes! Thank you for all the lovely feedback we have already received! Best of luck, everyone! Kind regards, Helen MacGrath

Austria - The Rainbow Dance

Dear friends,
this year our students decided to sing about colours, peace, friendship and a hopeful future.
Please enjoy our video and tell us "What is on your mind?"
Sing with us and have fun!

Could you finally come down, please?
Look, you are already red all over
because the dress you wear is shrill.
Was there just an orange one for sale?

Do you really wanna be like me?
You are green with envy and quite pale.
Do I wanna be so green myself?
Whenever did you lend a hand?

Would you please stop crying
into the blue sea of your tears?
Why don't you look into the purple mirror?
I know that pleases you so much.

Hungary - Ez itt az én hazám

The song talks about our legacy: our foods, our fathers’ teachings, factories, landscapes, all they left for us, childhood memories that we can pass on to the next generations, the future we are building together for those coming after us … about a small country we love dearly.

Russia / Republic of Tatarstan - Чак - Чак

We are happy to have completed the video before our upcoming holidays. The children learned this song about 6 weeks ago and since then they sing it day in and day out at school. They really enjoyed the work in the recording studio, showing off dresses, being actors and actresses in our makeshift film-studio (we had to film inside since it was still very cold and unpleasant outside) and of course eating loads of chak-chak.
Chak-chak is the traditional sweet of Tatarstan which is deep fried dough rolled in honey. We attempted to represent the hybrid of Russian and Tatar culture of the region as well as our very special flair as an international school by including different musical styles, the 3 main languages spoken by our students and relating to a range of local and international fairytales. We feel extremely privileged to be part of this fantastic event and looking forward to a lot more fun to come.

Thursday 20 April 2017

the Netherlands - Zoals hij (Just like him)

Every year, thousands of Dutch classes perform in school musicals in their final year of primary school. This song is from one of those musicals. The story is about a famous youtube personality. Everybody wants to be like him! Of course, at the end of the play, he realises that real friendship is more important than 'likes'.
This video is really our students' work. Their own ideas, their own choreography. They organized, filmed and edited everything themselves!

Oh, by the way: sorry to our Belgian neighbors for stealing your Manneken Pis. There's a mention of Brussels in the song, and somehow youtube decided to take this image for a thumbnail...

Rules

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest final will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on Saturday, 13 May.

Meanwhile, the 2017 edition of Schoolovision will come to its conclusion on Friday, 12 May, the day before the real Eurovision. Join us in this fun-filled project, as we find out who will be the latest Schoolovision Champions!

We are now into the 9th year of the Schoolovision journey and would like to welcome all members, new and old, to this unique eTwinning project, which guarantees fun for all participants, students and teachers alike, as we learn a bit about each others' cultures through the medium of music and song. with the added excitement of knowing that this is actually a competition.
Full rules are below; please read them carefully!

Following a similar format to the Eurovision Song Contest, Schoolovision 2017 will once again allow one primary school from all eTwinning countries wishing to participate, to record and upload a song of their choice, to be viewed by all other participants in the project.

In addition, all countries will be asked to evaluate and vote for their favourite songs after they have listened to all the others- and of course, voting for yourself will not be allowed!

You and your class will have until Friday, 5 May to decide upon your song, practise it, video it, and get it uploaded and embedded onto the project blog website, using either YouTube or Vimeo.
Once all songs are uploaded, you will need to get your class to watch all the other countries' entries and decide who will receive your votes. This should be done in the week from Friday, 5 May until Thursday, 11 May.

On Friday, 12 May 2017 you have two choices: You can either join the team for a group webcam conference, starting at 10.00 am CET time, where we will announce our votes to each other and total the votes up, so we can establish the winner. Or, if this is not possible, you will be able to watch a recording of the webcam conference afterwards to see who the winners are, or simply view the website, as the results will be posted straight after the webcam conference finishes. In any case, you will need to email your votes to Steffen, the project administrator, by Thursday evening (11 May) and NO LATER than 1800 hrs CET. Thus we will be able to successfully total all the votes from all the countries and announce who are Schoolovision champions for 2017. The winning school will be sent a specially commissioned trophy!

RULES

1. There can be one entry from each country with an independent status. Usually, this will mean one participating school per country. As a special exception, joint entries of two schools from one country are acceptable.

2. Schoolovision is for primary schools only. In addition, the participants (active singers) must be a maximum of 12 years old during the present school year. Their turning 13 in between is acceptable.

3. All previous entrants will already have received a request, asking you to confirm that you wish to enter the 2017 contest. After your confimation you will receive an invitation (via eTwinning) to become an official partner in the project, followed later by a separate invitation to contribute to the project's blog. You need to sign up for the blog, whereby you will be able to upload your finished song in due course.

In addition, please send Steffen a brief description of your school, along with a photograph and the link to your school's website, so that everyone can see which countries are participating this time.

4. The song you choose to sing should be one of your choice, hopefully chosen in collaboration with your pupils, and can be sung in any language. It can be a well-known song, or an original song that perhaps no-one else will have heard of- it's up to you!  However, it MUST be connected to your country in some way. *** PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF THE SONG HAS BEEN COPYRIGHTED, YOU MUST GET PERMISSION BEFORE USING IT.

5. Musical accompaniment is permitted but only in the following way: Members of your class (your pupils) who wish to play musical instruments can do so, and your song can have adult help who could for example, play a piano or a keyboard to lead the tune of the song. Alternatively, you can use a CD for the tune (but without the original singer's voice) - but your children MUST do the singing!

6. All entries MUST be completed and uploaded by Friday, 5 May at the latest. When your song is ready, it is your task to upload the video of your song to the project website via www.blogger.com using either the “upload video” section of the site (which is, due to the poor video quality of this option, not very recommendable) or by uploading your video to YouTube or Vimeo, then copying and pasting the embed code into your blog post. All files MUST be uploaded by Friday, 5 May, as each country will then need to watch all the entries and judge them during the following week, Monday, 8 May till Thursday, 11 May.

7. Once you and your pupils have watched each entry and chosen your favourites, please email your choices to Steffen before 1800 hrs CET on THURSDAY, 11 MAY.
YOU MUST NOT VOTE FOR YOUR OWN ENTRY!

8. It is always a great experience to receive positive and encouranging comments. By participating in this project, you also agree to encourage your pupils to write such comments under the videos of their partners. Equally, you will reserve some time to write a number of comments yourselves. You might even encourage colleagues and parents to follow your example, thus making the great work of your pupils and yourselves more known and positively regarded, just as the whole Schoolovision project.

9. In the earlier years of this project all countries' entries were listed according to their results. However, since some partners were unhappy with the unequal chances (perhaps due to different availability of technical and muscial support in the various countries), a new rule was installed in 2016. All partners can choose if they wish to be listed with the full result or if they just wish to be named including a link to their entry. The top 20 scores will be published automatically; all others may opt in to be listed with their actual results.

GOOD LUCK to all countries, and enjoy making your own and watching all the other entries, too!
May the best overall entry win the contest!

*** As said above, the whole point of Schoolovision is that you try to sing something that relates to your country. If you compose your own song- fantastic! Over the past years, we have had some really outstanding compositions by various Schoolovision teams.
If you choose to sing a song that has already been recorded previously, then it MUST be culturally relevant to your own country. If you're unsure whether your song idea complies with this rule, please contact Steffen and Marek.
